Coldplay To Play Piedmont Park In September!
The Brit super band, plus The Black Keys and other smoking local acts, bring Music Midtown back to the ATL this fall.
No your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you, Coldplay, a.k.a. Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow and his bandmates, will rock out on the meadow at Piedmont Park on Saturday, September 24, for a full day of music courtesy of LiveNation and Mayor Kasim Reed.
On Saturday, September 24, two stages will feature an ensemble of national and local talents, including Atlanta’s own The Black Keys, The Constellations and Manchester Orchestra, as well as Band of Skulls, Joy Formidable, Cage the Elephant, Young the Giant, Mona, and The Postelles.
Of the resurrection of Atlanta’s Midtown Music festival, LiveNation’s Peter Conlon stated, “Cities are defined by events like this.”
And God bless Mayor Kasim Reed, who is quickly becoming the patron saint of the cool set for reversing his original plans to cut arts funding after more forethought, and now bringing Midtown Music festival back to the city with Coldplay as the headliner. What’s next Mr. Reed: abolition of Sunday liquor laws? But in all seriousness, a portion of proceeds from the ticket sales for this music-palooza go to a very heartwarming cause: funding recreation centers and after-school activities for young people in the city. The initiative, called “Centers of Hope,” was established by Reed to re-open and refurbish every recreation center in the city as a place for young people to bolster their academic skills, engage in sport and develop character-building traits. So to sum up: your day of rampant music hedonism, a la Coachella or a modern-day Woodstock, can really be racked up to a good cause!
