Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at Puppetry Arts Center
The Center for Puppetry Arts’ beloved holiday adaptation of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ is soaring back into town to once again charm Atlanta audiences this holiday season. Adapted and directed by the Center’s Artistic Director, Jon Ludwig, the production is based on the classic 1964 stop-motion animated special and provides the audience with the opportunity to experience the timeless tale of Rudolph and his misfit friends live on stage. “The third time is a charm,” remarked Ludwig on the return of the holiday classic. “Shine up your jingle bells and get ready to sing along to your favorite holiday hits! It’s Holly Jolly Time!” Opening on November 8-Jan. 6, Ludwig’s adaptation for the puppet stage faithfully embraces the original and includes all of the timeless characters such as Hermey the elf, Yukon Cornelius, and the Abominable Snow Monster. Atlanta Christmas House to Benefit Alliance Theatre
Atlanta Christmas House opens Thurs. Nov. 15 with a special “Champagne and Candlelight Tour” opening party. The house will be open to tour Nov. 16--Dec. 9 and features top Atlanta designers such as Beth Webb, Jim Howard, Laura Walker, Barbara Heath, Amy D. Morris and many more. There will also be special Saturday seminars. Jennifer Pickens is signing her book “Christmas at the White House” on Nov. 17 and Danielle Rollins will be signing her new book “Soiree: The Art of Entertaining” on Dec. 8. Winter Wonderland Exhibit at Fernbank Museum
Fernbank Museum of Natural History celebrates the holiday season from November 16-- January 6, with “Winter Wonderland: Celebrations & Traditions Around the World.” The festive exhibition features trees, displays and other programming to reveal how people around the world celebrate the holidays. New this year: holiday photo opportunities, a children’s art exhibition and kid-friendly train rides. The exhibit also includes festive performances, dancing, music, demonstrations, storytelling and more on select days, including the “Winter Wonderland Celebration Weekend” on November 17-18, “Caroling and Cookies Weekend” on December 1-2, and a special concert with Laughing Pizza on December 8. “Garden Lights, Holiday Nights” Opens Today at Atlanta Botanical Garden
Atlanta’s newest, favorite holiday tradition returns for the second year Nov. 17 --Jan.5. More than 1.5 million lights (98% of the bulbs energy-saving) will transform the 30-acre Garden into a magical winter wonderland. Holidays with The Chalks at Alliance Theatre
The Alliance Theatre brings a hilarious new, adult holiday musical to the Hertz Stage. Holidays with The Chalks combines improv with country music spoofing at its finest. Udeen, Judelle and Belva Chalk have spent a triple lifetime crisscrossing the USA singing the honky tonk harmonies that made them famous. But when Tubby’s Bar and Grill goes up in flames after a particularly rowdy show, the Chalk sisters find themselves on 90 days of bus arrest in the parking lot. If Judelle stays sober, Belva stays dressed and Judeen stays one step ahead of the law, they just may get the tour bus rolling again in time for Christmas. But whatever happens, fans are in for a raucous evening of original music, irreverent comedy, and free baked goods. Some lucky fans may even find themselves onstage! Atlanta Ballet’s The Nutcracker at Fabulous Fox Theatre
Atlanta Ballet will give new meaning to “the magic of the holidays” this season as Artistic Director John McFall ups the ante by adding master illusionist Drew Thomas into the mix for the Company’s 53rd production of Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker, Dec. 7- 26, at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. McFall has updated the production every year to keep it vibrant and fresh. This year he has completely reimagined Act 1, including the famous “party scene,” with new choreography, new characters and, of course, more magic, such as 20 pounds of snow and a 38-foot-tall Christmas tree. Christmas Tree Lighting at Atlantic Station
Kick off the holidays with the Atlantic Station Tree Lighting on Nov. 17. The shopping center will light up with more than 250,000 lights. The family-friendly event will feature musical entertainment, kid’s activities, live reindeer, and Make-A-Wish Foundation will sell lighted wands so children can “help” with the tree lighting. The night will culminate with Santa’s arrival at 7:15PM, a Holiday Jubilee performance at 7:25PM and the tree lighting, a “snow show” and fireworks at 8PM. The free event takes place noon-to 8PM at Central Park.

On Nov. 23 and 24, at 8:00 PM, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will bring the soundtrack of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl to life. “The Holiday Spirit” annual, family program at Atlanta History Center
The Atlanta History Center's one-day program, The Holiday Spirit, is filled with family activities that celebrate the season: holiday crafts, live music, decorations, engaging theatrical performances, and a visit from Saint Nicholas. Featured activities include time travel to explore holidays past at Smith Family Farm and Swan House, where guests encounter friendly “Spirits” from the 1860s and the 1930s. At Smith Family Farm, guests meet members of the Smith household as they prepare for the holidays and welcome soldiers returning from war on furlough. Demonstrations of blacksmithing, candle-dipping, and open-hearth cooking showcase time-honored traditions of the South. At Swan House, guests observe holiday decorations and meet the individuals who kept the house running during the busy holiday season, including the gardener, chauffeur, and maid. The event is free to members and included in the cost of general admission for non-members. The Holiday Spirit program takes place Sat. Dec. 15 from 10:30AM to 4:30 PM.
