Jason Wu Headlines Fashion Cares
ATL’s stylish swan dive to summer
By Nancy Staab
Impresario of ladylike chic, Jason Wu, will return to Atlanta Aug. 29 as the special guest designer for Jeffrey Fashion Cares 2011.
The 28-year-old Wu, who was first honored by Jeffrey Fashion Cares in 2009, has won numerous accolades for his particular brand of Park Avenue polish, including the Swarovski Award for Women’s Wear from the CFDA in 2010.
Likewise, Wu’s most recent fall/winter 2011 show earned runway raves for its exquisite use of filmy sheers, feathers and, above all, delicate, vine-like black lace.
It’s a repeat (or should we say three-peat) in many ways with last year’s co-chairs Louise Sams, Jeffrey McQuithy and Lila Hertz returning to host this year’s gala, high atop 12th and Midtown, with Dennis Dean of Dennis Dean Catering as this year's Honorary Chair. But just when you thought you had the Fashion Cares formula down pat, think again. The creative chairs have a few surprises up their impeccable sleeves---promising exciting new initiatives for this year’s gala. Proceeds from the couture cocktail reception and fashion show (featuring Wu, Lanvin, Celine, Balenciaga, Louboutin, Prada and many more high fashion picks from Jeffrey boutique) benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Atlanta AIDS Fund. Fashion Cares was founded by Jeffrey Kalinsky of Jeffrey boutique Atlanta and New York City, and last year the Atlanta event raised $650,000 for the twin causes. So as the saying goes, Wu and be wooed!
