Just Blow

The latest beauty trend has hit Hotlanta: sleek hair salons that specialize in shiny-smooth, movie-star quality blowouts

By Nancy Staab

OPENING FRIDAY OCT. 28 DRYBAR….All the rage in NYC and Cali, these bars specialize in expert blowouts only (ie. no haircutting, coloring or other hair services, etc. are offered on the premise). Perfect for busy beauties on the go, pre-gala fluffing or pre-bridal parties, these easy-in-and-out bars trade on their cocktail-referencing names by offering a boutique environment, flutes of champagne and other refreshments at the mini bar, and fun amenities galore, like the flat screens with chick flicks on rotation at DryBar. Read on for all the details on these beauty blowouts.

How Many Bucks You'll Blow:  $35 for standard wash and blowout

Drybar founder Allie Webb Drybar founder Allie Webb

Drybar was founded by a Los Angeles beauty pro and PR maven (her clients included Faith Hill and Paul McCartney) Allie Webb. Webb’s catchy concept proved contagious and soon led to salons throughout L.A., as well as outposts in cities like Dallas, San Francisco, Scottsdale, and soon Atlanta, NYC, Washington D.C.  and London. For a flat fee of $35 a pop, no matter your hair length or texture, clients get an expert wash and blowout in quick order, selecting from a “menu” of styles including the Mai Tai (beachy bounce), the Cosmopolitan (loose curls) or the Manhattan (stick-straight styling), among other options. Frequent dryers can join the club for membership discounts and for a charge of  $75 the blow brigade will come to your own house to dress your tresses. You can also sample an Up-tini (ie. updo) for $70.  We love the gourmet snacks and marble bars outfitted with iPhone docking stations. Celebs like Cindy Crawford and Rose McGowan are also among the fans of this “all-style, no attitude” boutique blow bar, decorated in the signature sleek, white palette with pops of sunny yellow.

How Many Bucks You'll Blow:  $35 for standard wash and blowout

Blo Beauty Bar was founded by local beauty and salon pro Melissa Methier. The 12 year beauty veteran has now opened her own eco-chic blowout salon, tapping into one of the hottest new hair trends. In addition to the salon’s pro blowout, clients can indulge in a Mind Eraser deep-conditioning treatment or a custom makeup application—perfect for pre-gala or special date night primping. For the ultimate relaxer check out the full-body Osaki massage chair. Methier and her makeup pro Marian are vets of the chi-chi Carte Barnes Hair Artisans salon at Phipps Plaza, so they know a thing or two about hair care and beauty. Don’t miss the salon’s all-natural line of hair care products Sudzz FX, including the best-selling Sudzz FX Level Straight smoothing potion, for no-frizz locks. Complimentary cocktails round out the bespoke services with special happy hours Thursday and Friday evenings, including 15% all products during those hours, and that's not just hot air.
