Sculpture in the Garden at The Atlanta Botanical Garden

19 contemporary works of sculpture by 9 artists will be exhibited throughout The Atlanta Botanical Garden through October in collaboration with Marlborough Gallery New York. “Skate It or Hang It”at the Museum of Design Atlanta

In what has to be the rad-est art exhibit of the summer, MODA devotes its walls and even outside piazza space to a celebration of skateboard chic and skateboard culture through Oct. 27. The exhibit will include skateboard graphics from the 1970s to present day; original installations by Atlanta-based artists influenced by skateboard art such as Alex Brewer AKA graf artist Hense, and a 9-foot interactive skateboard sticker wall.  www.museumofdesign.org

 

 

“Picturing New York/Picturing the South”at the High Museum

The High Museum of Art’s magnificent partnership with MoMA continues with the compelling photography exhibit “Picturing New York: Photographs from the Museum of Modern Art” Artists in the survey include Walker Evans, Harry Callahan, Berenice Abbott and Diane Arbus. Meanwhile, the High commissioned three photographers to capture their take on Southern life for “Picturing the South.” Brit lensman Martin Parr give his non-objective, slightly grotesque take on Atlanta as a casual outsider: from diners, pawn shops and state fairs to echelons of high society. Meanwhile, photographer Kael Alford documents a year of life in Louisiana marshlands in his “Bottom of ‘Da Boot” exhibit and Shane Lavalette explores the links between Southern landscape and regional music.
