Shopping Italian Style!

How you can bag la dolce vita at the malls

By Nancy Staab

High fashion labels Prada, Bottega Veneta and Ermigneldo Zegna invade Phipps and Lenox Malls, while flirty Cosabella comes to Shops Around Lenox

The Pravda About Prada

The Prada PR machine is keeping a tight lip, but Simon Malls confirms that a Prada boutique is slated to come to the luxury wing of Lenox Square Mall (taking over part of the former Godiva Chocolate space) in the near future.  Renovations are already underway. Traditionalists will go for ladylike fur trimmed pieces, while more avant-garde types will spring for the spangly, paillette dresses in acidic colors from the Fall 2011 collection. Not to fear cacao-addicts, Godiva Chocolates has relocated upstairs with a larger lounge space and we hear that free Wi-Fi is in the works, so you can toggle while eating your truffles.

Bottega Veneta Goes Atlanta

Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta, known for its discreet luxury, will open the doors of its first Georgia boutique this summer at Phipps Plaza. The 2,500-square-foot store will carry the company’s full line of clothing, shoes, accessories and gifts for women and men. In the image below: a little preview from creative director Tomas Maier’s Fall 2011 Collection for Bottega Veneta, which summons up visions of a doll-like Tippi Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds--both in terms of Bottega Veneta’s fall advertising campaign and the earlys’60s vibe of some of the prim, ladylike pieces. Other pieces are in a decidedly more modern vein for contemporary cool blondes like January Jones. Or dive into the more modern Resort 2012 Collection featuring sorbet hues and drapey parachute pieces as well as corseted, body-con numbers (as seen in image above).

With both Bottega Veneta and Gucci already ensconced at Phipps Plaza, will other Gucci Group vendors such as Balenciaga, Boucheron, Stella McCartney or YSL follow in the future? Stay tuned!

Want more Bottega Veneta? Check out this cool film noir promo created by Maier that plays on the sexy anonymity of hotel travel and highlights some of the fashion house’s covetable woven leather accessories. We love the soundtrack.

Ciao Bella!

Think of it as candy story for underwear. The bright white décor of the new, 1,000-square-foot Cosabella boutique at Shops Around Lenos offers the perfect foil for luscious, candy-colored pops of hot pink, purple, cobalt blue, citrus orange, siren red and yellow lingerie. There’s plenty of pretty pastels as well, and camisoles, sleepwear, shapewear, and loads of lacy little things in classic  black and white. The Italians have always excelled at style and this Italian-based lingerie company is no exception. The well-crafted goods at this women’s boutique make Victoria’s Secret look like the clearance rack at Kmart. Leave V.S. for your babysitter’s crowd. You, as a grown up woman, will want to splurge on this sophisticated, Euro-centric line of underpinnings. Why not pick a rainbow array of colors for every day of the week? 3400 Around Lenox Road (across the street from Lenox Mall), 404.869.9622 or cosabella.com

Z Is for Zegna

Lenox Square Mall recently introduced a new vendor for their discerning male clientele--Ermigneldo Zegna. While this luxury Italian fashion house may be new to Atlanta, it's an 100-year-old label now run by the fourth generation of the Zegna family. Zegna is most famous for it's tailored suiting and made-to-measure "su misura" services, but they also offer a full line of menswear and accessories to sharply dress a man from head-to-toe, whether formal wear or weekend play. And if your new Zegna suit manages to raise your fashion profile, it's not your imagination at work. This fashion house has also crafted suits for Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Tom Ford! You will find Ermigneldo Zegna in the luxury wing of Lenox Square. http://www.zegna.com
