Versace channels Gianni’s exuberant decade, Baroque flourishes and colorful sea life for its latest masstige and prestige collections.

Donatella Versace takes a trip down memory lane, referencing some of her brother Gianni’s iconic designs, for her much-hyped collection, Versace for H&M, debuting Saturday, Nov. 19. Get in line early if you want to get your hands on sexy studded leather jackets and sheaths, Grecian and metallic chainmail dresses, splashy tropical prints and high-voltage accessories. Prices range from $17.95 for racy zebra-print lingerie to $299 for the studded leather jackets. Men aren’t left out of the mix either: but unless you live in Miami and are confident enough to rock a head-to-toe hot pink suit, this may not be your bag. Ladies, on the other hand, will have much to pick from on a spectrum that ranges from the brash to the sleek and sophisticated.

We suggest going the sleek route with a black Grecian mini-dress, modeled by Jennifer Hudson for the runway show, or a studded jacket or sheath in black or hot pink leather. Starlets came in droves and dressed in Versace for H&M for the runway debut, including Gossip Girl Blake Lively, Jessica Alba, Uma Thurman, Nicki Minaj rocking one of the more outlandish looks, and Sophia Coppola-- with ’80s legend Prince providing the tunes.

Meanwhile, Versace’s fall 2011 and spring 2012 collections were equally rave-worthy. Fall was all about graphic Baroque curlicues on otherwise streamlined dresses, feather-trimmed eveningwear and belted military coats. Spring took a more dreamy route, with Donatella, like many designers this spring, summoning inspiration from under the sea. Pastel prints of life aquatic,  a starfish embellished gown and fanciful seahorse platforms with Lucite heels that could possibly walk on water prevailed.
