The Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre hosted a gala night of dining, culture and entertainment at The Woodruff Arts Center for its annual Tony Evening benefit. Stephanie Blank served as this year’s chair, while 30 Rock actress and Tony-winning Broadway star Jane Krakowski regaled the crowds with her song and dance performances. A few Sesame Street characters also showed up for the festivities since Sesame Street’s non-profit organization, Sesame Workshop, was honored at the event for its continued support of the arts in early childhood. Also honored for his charitable work: Paul Bowers, President and CEO of Georgia Power. Black-tie guests enjoyed cocktails on Sifly Plaza, a gourmet dinner, silent and live luxury auctions, Krakowski’s performance, and a champagne and dessert reception post-show. Among the VIP crowd: President and CEO of Sesame Workshop Mel Ming, Alliance Theatre Artistic Director Susan V. Booth, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Vicki and Howard Palefsky, Tracie Arnold, Jonathan Shapero, Ann Johnson, Elizabeth Klum, Carol and Ramon Tome, Amy Agami. Proceeds from the evening benefitted Alliance Theatre’s educational programming for youth and families.
Highlights of next season at The Alliance Theatre include the musical Harmony by Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman Sept. 6-Oct. 6, 2013, and Maurice Hines is Tappin’ Thru Life on April 2 to May 4, 2014. For more info visit: www.alliancetheatre.org
