The High Museum’s four-day wine auction, featuring cellar tours, private estate dinners and tasting seminars, culminated with the main auction gala. Guests sampled the wares of some of the world’s top winemakers and top regional chefs, while placing bids on luxe packages.
High Museum Director Michael E. Shapiro; High Wine Auction Co-Chairs Christie Baty Hudgins and Alyson Rogers; High Wine Auction founder Dick Denny, Special Guests of Honor: Andy Beskstoffer of Beskstoffer Vineyards, CA, and Claude Giraud of Champagne Henri Giraud, France; Special “Vine to Table” Guest Chefs Chris Hall of Local Three, Atlanta, Greg Hardesty of Recess (IN), Chris Hastings of Hot and Hot Fish Club (AL), Patrick Owens of Langdon’s (SC).
The main auction gala took place under the Big Top at Atlantic Station, with various tasting seminars, winemakers’ dinners and secret cellar tours held at venues, restaurants and private estates throughout town.
“A New Vintage” was this year’s theme as the auction turned officially “legal” in its 21st year. Guests sampled wine from some of the world’s top vineyards and enjoyed a gourmet dinner prepared by the special guest chefs. An auction of various premium wine lots and other luxe travel packages such as a Hirsch Vineyards dinner with Jasmine Hirsch, Carissa Mondavi, Chef Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene, and Chef Mike Lata of Fig led to fierce bidding and festive toasting.
The Grand Cru Sponsor was Wells Fargo
$1.5 million was raised to support the High Museum of Art’s exhibition and educational programming. The dates of next year’s wine auction are March 26-29, 2014.
