Asian ribbon dancers, Chinese lanterns, Oriental delicacies and more, highlight this haute hotel’s Chinese New Year festivities.
With the hotel brand’s Oriental origins, it made sense that the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta would usher in the Chinese New Year with a major celebration. Mandarin Oriental Atlanta and its GM Robert Lowe pulled out all the stops for an exotic and enchanting evening. Among the entertainments in the red-draped Oriental ballroom, lit by Chinese lanterns: Asian ribbon dancers, live snake handlers from Atlanta Zoo (in tribute to Year of the Snake), Asian drums and cymbals players, and Lion dance performances. Cocktail-chic guests including several Atlanta diginitaries, sipped cocktails and feasted on a lavish buffet of Asian specialties such as whole Peking duck carved to order with scallion pancakes; Gulf sesame prawn toast, steamed whole ginger crusted red snapper, and shredded duck and vegetable spring rolls. Guest left with “red lai see” packets, filled with wishes of good health and good fortune.
