St. Regis Atlanta’s Birthday Bash

100 Years and 100 Bottles of Champagne

The St. Regis Atlanta celebrates its third birthday and the 100th anniversary of the Titanic with a Gilded Age Cocktail party and enough champagne to, well, sink a ship.

The Highlights

Hundreds of guests were treated to the St. Regis Atlanta’s third birthday celebration, which happened to coincide with the centennial of the sinking of the Titanic (a sea tragedy that claimed the life of St. Regis heir John Jacob Astor). In keeping with the theme, the hotel threw a belle époque soiree, complete with the sabering of 100 bottles of Hesidick Champagne (the same bubbly poured on the fated ship 100 years ago). In-house sommelier Harry Constantinescu did the honors with sword in hand in dramatic fashion as guests enjoyed ample bubbly and gourmet passed hors d’oeuvres inspired by the Titanic’s original menu. Constantinescu sabered 100 bottles in a mere 7 minutes and 21 seconds, attempting a new Guinness World Record. The celebrations continued all month with special dinner menus at Paces 88 based on first class menus from the ship circa 1912, enough champagne to sink a ship, and a couture cocktail, The Centennial, featuring a 1912 Madeira Verdelho Reserva, Domaine de Canton ginger liquor, Krug Rosé Champagne, Breckenridge bourbon and an edible orchid garnish.
