Super-Fab SCAD!

Fashion and design collide at the spring SEEN Gala

  • Photos by Colby Blount with SCAD/Rafterman Photography

Hot fashion, haute chairs by local designers, honorary chair Rachel Roy and a chic crowd were the ingredients for a stylish soiree this spring on the SCAD-Atlanta campus.

The Party:

The Spring fashion SEEN Gala at SCAD-Atlanta, featuring the school’s top graduating fashion students and killer custom Donghia chairs designed by SCAD students and faculty were on display at the fashion-forward event.

The VIPs:

SCAD honorary chair and fashion designer Rachel Roy, co-chairs Glen and Danielle Rollins and Deborah and Scott Kelley, SCAD president Paula Wallace, and Donghia creative director and Atlanta native/SCAD alum Chuck Chewning

The Scene-Makers:

SCAD fashion school dean Michael Fink, W Hotel’s global fashion director Amanda Ross (previously a consultant for Dennis Basso and Elie Tahrai) and emerging NYC designer Frank Tell were just a few of the fashion-forward in attendance at the sold out gala of 600-plus attendees. Also spotted in the creative crowd:  Suzanne and Ed Inman, designer John Oetgen, gallerist Fay Gold, Tamara Bowens, Anna and Richard Paré, Wendy Aronson, Brenda Freeman, Coca-Cola’s Ingrid Saunders Jones, Spanx CEO Laurie Ann Goldman, Marjorie Harvey, Pebbles Reid, Moxie Interactive CEO Joel Lunnenfield, Judy Mauldin, Jack Sawyer and Bill Torres, Ginny Brewer, Phebe Wahl, Alison Womack, Jason and Andrea Moattar, Chris and Connie Brogdan, Bob and Sue Nardelli.

20 top senior fashion students showed their stunning works in an atelier-like setting, each student with his/her own sleek, white, interactive “shop.”  Many were mentored by guest designer and honorary chair Rachel Roy. ( Fashion designers Christopher Benz and Christian Cota also mentored some of the SCAD-Savannah students this year as part of SCAD’s StyleLab program. In fact, Benz was so inspired by his stint in Savannah that his entire fall collection took inspiration from this historic city).  Couture clad guests enjoyed stylish bites courtesy of Dennis Dean.

Best of Show:

We adored the luxe but thoroughly modern fur pieces by SCAD fashion senior In Hee Jang and the pink Boticelli Venus version of the Donghia chair, on exhibit with many others by SCAD faculty and students.

Platinum sponsors:  J. Christopher’s and Robert and Sue Nardelli. Gold Sponsors:  Atlantic Station, Anita and Michael Thomas, W. Atlanta Midtown. Silver Sponsors:  Chick-fil-A, Coca-Cola, Sarah and Walter Cockerham, Deborah and Scott Kelly, Moxie Interactive and SCAD Atlanta bookstore.

The Cause:

All proceeds benefitted the SCAD Atlanta scholarship fun
