Bergdorf’s Big Bash
Designers are coming out in droves to mark this Fifth Avenue fashion bastion

Bergdorf Goodman Plans a Major Fashion Bash, Film, & Fashion Exclusives this Fall for Its 111th Anniversary.
The fabled NYC retailer Bergdorf Goodman turns 111 this year and has planned a series of special events to mark the occasion (it’s a long story why they didn’t throw the bash on the more obvious 110th anniversary instead). Among the fanfare planned for the big 111th: an anniversary collection of exclusive products by top designers, a documentary film and accompanying book about the legendary history of the store, and a private gala to be held in October.
Several luxe labels have created exclusive items for Bergdorf to mark the occasion, including a fuschia velvet dress by Alexander McQueen, mesh and beaded “Disco Heels” by Jimmy Choo, a gray velvet dinner jacket for men by Brioni, a silk and paillette party dress from Oscar de la Renta, and a sharp, modernized version of an “American Gigolo” suit by Armani. Master Parisian perfumer Maison Francis Kurkdjian even created a signature scent to embody the Fifth Avenue shopping emporium called 754 after its famed address. But our favorite piece is the trompe l’oeil silk gown and matching coat with a digital print of the illustrious Bergdorf façade by Akris. Other designer participants include Ermenegildo Zegna, Christian Loboutin, Paul Smith, Prada, Marchesa, Dolce and Gabbana, Jason Wu, etc.
Bergdorf’s also gets special screen treatment with the cheekily-titled documentary Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s, which debuted to acclaim at New York Fashion Week in September. The film and the companion book go behind the scenes of the legendary store and features cameos by Bergdorf fans such as Karl Lagerfeld, Candice Bergen, Manolo Blahnik, Mary Kate Olsen, Alber Elbaz, and Rachel Zoe.
Lastly, Bergdorf’s contemporary men’s space is getting a mini-makeover just in time for the fall celebrations, including a new Lanvin and Prada Men’s boutiques; shops for Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Etro, YSL, Givenchy, Rick Owens, Dries Van Noten, Thom Browne and Alexander McQueen—not to mention a new Dolce & Gabbana shop. To come later: American men’s sportswear by the likes of Billy Reid, Todd Snyder, Paul Smith and Michael Bastian. Last but not least, dapper dudes will rejoice to hear that Bergdorf’s is adding a Mad Men-style “shoe library,” so ladies, to keep pace you better step up your own shoe game! www.bergdorfgoodman.com
