Dior Has a New Door at Saks Fifth Avenue
Parisian beauty comes to Peachtree Street
By Nancy Staab
Dior opens a chic new beauty boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue at Phipps Plaza and christens the space with an exclusive collection of Dior fragrances.
Just step into the shoe salon entrance to Saks Fifth Avenue at Phipps Plaza, and you will be greeted with a stunningly chic new beauty boutique for French fashion house Dior. The gleaming white, black and gold space communicates timeless elegance and luxury--and also warmth. Terry Darland, President of LVMH Beauty, which includes the couture brand Dior, came to Atlanta to cut the ribbon of the new boutique this December. “The Atlanta boutique represents a brand new design. Dior did exploration on how to elevate the brand and celebrate its Parisian roots, while at the same time conveying a modern, accessible, playful vibe,” says Darland. “The incorporation of videos and the warmth of the gold walls make the space inviting and warm, not standoffish.”
Exquisitely packaged makeup and skincare products glow on their lit-from-within pedestals. An image of beauty icon and Dior ambassador Charlize Theron, swathed in gold like a goddess, presides over the space. Other Dior beauty ambassadors include the exquisite Natalie Portman, while Marion Cotillard and Jennifer Lawrence currently represent the fashion component of Dior. (Past Dior models have included Kate Moss for the Addiction line of lip glosses and Italian bombshell Monica Belluci for lipsticks.) Just as vital as the makeup offerings, such as glittering eye shadows, Dior Show mascara, Airflash spray foundation, the retro Grand Bal collection in vintage packaging, or sleek nail lacquers, are Dior’s luxe skincare lines. Darland says that the everyday skincare line Capture Totale (perfect for ages 35-55) was recently upgraded, based on new stem cell research at Stanford University. The line offers full anti-aging protection and addresses such common beauty issues as lines, wrinkles, dark spots and loss of radiance. Meanwhile, golden-lidded pots of the potent L’Or de Vie contain super high anti-oxidant ingredients, extracted from ultra-premium Chateau Y’quem vines, for ultimate skin health.
But what Darland is most excited about is the new, very precious La Collection Privée of Christian Dior fragrances, with Saks Fifth Avenue as the exclusive vendor in Atlanta. So rare are these fragrances, that they are currently offered in only five outlets in the U.S. The grouping consists of 10 fragrances and colognes, for men or women, created by Dior’s top, in-house perfumer or “nose” Francois Demarchy. Only three fashion houses boast their own perfumer: Dior, Chanel and Hermes. For La Collection Privee each fragrance is based one central essence or ingredient, with many of the ingredients proprietary to house of Dior, including jasmine or roses harvested from Dior’s own fields in Grasse.
Scent was essential to designer Christian Dior and he felt that no woman was fully dressed without perfume," says Darland. “Models would open their coats before a show and Dior would mist them with perfume before a fashion show. He also included a spray of Lilly of the Valley with every dress for good luck.” Likewise, this collection of fragrances draws inspiration from Dior’s past—whether the Jasmine-inflected Grand Bal inspired by the many gilded balls he attended or Granville, which has a more pine and rosemary fragrance based on the sea-swept and forest landscapes of Dior’s childhood home Granville in Normandy, France. Some fragrances are floral, some oriental or musky, some masculine and some feminine to appease every olfactory profile. Clients can sample the base perfume essences to then determine which fragrance is most to their taste. For the men there’s a Vetiver that is laced, quite unusually, with coffee bean. Sensualists will love Ambre Nuit with its concoction of Bergamot, Turkish Rose, Amber and Patchouli. Romantics will be drawn to the feminine Grand Bal of Jasmine, sweet musk and Tunisian Orange Blossom, or New Look 1947—the latter inspired by Christian Dior’s signature look created in 1947 of nipped-in waists and billowing skirts. The New Look is a floral that features Indian Tuberose, Turkish Rose, Sambac Jasmine on a sensual, woody base wrapped in Madagascar Vanilla. Spritz on this exquisite fragrance and your new scent is sure to garner many new looks, indeed.
La Collection Privée Christian Dior fragrances are $230 for a 250ml. bottle and are exclusive to Atlanta at the new Dior beauty boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue at Phipps Plaza, 3440 Peachtree Road, 404. 261.7234.
