So there was a bit of controversy when the Venice Film Festival jury decided at the last minute to yank the top prize from Paul Thomas Anderson’s Scientology-inspired flick The Master, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman (due to new festival rules). However, the gorgeousness of the red carpet looks was incontestable. This most international of film fests drew its share of European starlets that are lesser known to U.S. audiences, but how glamorous that our American starlets like Naomi Watts, Kate Hudson and Salma Hayek shared klieg lights with the likes of Catherine Deneuve, jury member Laetitia Casta and Charlotte Casraghi, plus Polish stunner Kasia Smutniak (the model/actress had a role in 2010’s From Paris with Love), who opened and closed the festival. From Gucci to Pucci, Alberta Ferretti to Armani Privé, here are the winning, Golden Lion-worthy looks.
