Actress Emma Stone gets our nod for celebrity style star of 2012
By Nancy Staab
Emma Stone steps up the celebrity style game with her red carpet fashion knock-outs for day and night. An equal opportunity dresser, she changes her looks and designer labels as often as she changes her hair color. And Stone’s willing to takes some fashion risks, but she never looks less than perfectly polished. For that reason, she’s our 2012 celebrity style crush.
Probably the seminal style moment for Emma Stone was during her very first Academy Awards appearance in a peach Calvin Klein gown: it was minimal but with maximum effect. She was like a modern-day Grace Kelly with her then-blonde up-do. You could practically hear Anna Wintour’s neck craning to discern exactly who that girl was and not long after, she appeared in the pages of Vogue. More recently, she graced the July 2012 cover of the magazine.
Since that first awards appearance, Stone has proven an elegantly edgy style star and has also upped her career ante quite a bit too with an Oscar-nominated role in The Help, a lead role in Spider Man and star turn in the massively popular rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love. This spring she will shoot an untitled Cameron Crowe film with Bradley Cooper. Off-screen, this fashion chameleon has changed her style profile as much as her hair color, mixing up emerging, fashion-forward designers like Roksanda Illincic with red carpet stalwarts like Chanel, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Giambattista Valli, Pucci and Gucci. She’s tomboy cool in a sexy, black Elie Saab pantsuit, lady who lunches in a lacy Bottega Veneta frock, and sexy film siren in a silver Balenciaga gown. Sure, credit is also due to her blank-canvas kind of beauty that takes to any look and credit is also due to her celebrity stylist Petra Flannery (Flannery’s other clients include Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Faith Hill and Megan Fox), but we think Stone’s own innate style-compass is drop-dead accurate!
